Small Animal and Exotics

Rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and other small furries are becoming increasingly popular as pets and it is just as important that they are kept happy and healthy!

Here at Abbey Vets we advise at least an annual health check for your small furry companions. At this health check they will receive a comprehensive examination and your vet will be happy to discuss any concerns you may have and offer advice on husbandry and feeding.

Vaccines

Rabbits require an annual vaccination to keep them protected against two very contagious and potentially fatal diseases. These are Myxomatosis and Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (VHD). Rabbits living outdoors in the country are at a higher risk however we would advise vaccinating all rabbits as the diseases can be carried into gardens by wild birds, etc.

The vaccine consists on one injection given annually and your rabbit will receive a full health check at the same time!

Neutering

Here at Abbey Vets we neuter a variety of “small furries” including rabbits, guinea pigs, rats etc. We would advise contacting the surgery directly to further discuss the procedure if you wish to have your pet neutered and a member of the team will be happy to answer any questions you have and arrange a suitable time.
